SHEYLA MESA received her B.A. in International Relations, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Florida International University.  She earned her J.D. from Florida International University College of Law. 


Ms. Mesa has assisted in the effective representation of clients in all aspects of state and federal litigation.  She has worked on a wide range of substantive matters within the area of commercial litigation, including cases involving shareholder disputes, contract disputes, fraud actions, insurance coverage matters, commercial lease disputes, loan transactions, foreclosure proceedings, appraisal proceedings, commercial payment mechanisms (negotiable instruments, letters of credit, drafts and the like), fraudulent checks disputes, disputes involving federal consumer financial law (the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Federal Trade Commission Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and the Truth in Lending Act), internal corporate investigations, and other complex business matters. 


Ms. Mesa has worked on a wide range of substantive matters within the area of admiralty and maritime law, including cases involving vessel financing, personal injury and wrongful death claims arising under the Jones Act, Death on the High Seas Act, and general maritime law.


Ms. Mesa is involved in all aspects of the litigation process including drafting pleadings and written discovery, drafting dispositive, and non-dispositive motions, arguing motions before the court, and negotiating settlements.


Ms. Mesa is admitted to the Florida Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida, and the Florida Supreme Court.  She is a member of The American Bar Association and The Dade County Bar Association.


Ms. Mesa is fluent in Spanish.
